Job Description

We're looking for a Senior Backend/AI Engineer to join our team and help build intelligent systems that power real-world decision-making.

You'll work on backend services, LLM & Agentic pipelines, and data integrations, shipping features end-to-end from concept to production. This is a client-facing role: you'll interact directly with stakeholders (some technical, some domain experts) to gather feedback, understand priorities, and turn their needs into working software.

You'll work alongside Beyond Data's team: a Principal, a Senior ML Engineer, a Senior Data Architect, and a Senior Infrastructure Architect. There's plenty of room for collaboration and learning, but we expect you to bring the seniority to propose ideas, make technical decisions, and own what you build.

The ideal candidate is a strong engineer who can take a feature from "we need this" to "it's live" without needing their hand held. You're comfortable talking to clients, you ship reliably, and you care about building things that actually get used.

This is not a data science role. We're not training models—we're building products. If you want to write clean code, integrate with LLMs, work directly with users, and see your work in production, this is for you.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and ship backend services and AI-powered systems end-to-end
• Build and maintain data integrations with external APIs and data sources
• Develop and optimize LLM & Agentic pipelines for data processing and analysis
• Own features from concept to production deployment
• Gather requirements and feedback directly from clients (both technical and domain-focused stakeholders)
• Translate client needs into technical solutions and implementation plans
• Communicate progress, tradeoffs, and technical concepts to non-technical audiences
• Work closely with a senior engineering peer to design and deliver product capabilities
• Propose and drive improvements to system architecture and product features
• Contribute to technical decisions and codebase quality

Requirements

Need-to-have's

• Senior-level backend engineering experience (5+ years)
• Proven experience building and shipping AI-powered systems (LLMs, agents, embeddings)
• Strong software development fundamentals: clean code, testing, system design
• Experience deploying and operating services in the cloud
• Ability to own features end-to-end, from requirements to production
• Comfortable working directly with clients and translating their needs into technical solutions
• Clear communication skills: can explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
• Strong sense of ownership and autonomy
• Advanced Python experience

Nice-to-have's

• Experience prioritizing features and balancing competing stakeholder needs
• Data engineering background (pipelines, ETL, data quality)
• Experience with GCP (our current cloud platform)
• Startup or consulting background
• Experience working in distributed/remote teams
